A legacy of dance

Celebrating over 50 years of dance, our studio has proudly served dancers and families throughout Chesapeake, Suffolk, Portsmouth, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Hampton, Newport News, and surrounding communities.

Founded by Miss Maureen Hannah, the studio was lovingly led by her for 45 years before she passed the baton to her daughter, Miss Michelle Council. Having grown up in the studio and bringing over 30 years of teaching experience, Michelle is honored to continue the legacy her mother began when she was just an infant.

Today, our dancers train with a dedicated team of experienced instructors who emphasize strong technique, artistry, and a lifelong love of dance. We welcome students ages three through adult and are especially proud to see second- and third-generation families return year after year.

While our history tells part of the story, the true heart of our studio is best experienced in the classroom — through the passion, community, and joy of dance that has defined us for more than five decades.

Home of the Spotlight Dance Competition Team, our competitive program has been a cornerstone of the studio since 1989, when it was founded by the beloved Miss Donna Cannady. For decades, these dedicated dancers have called Maureen’s their second home, training and competing at local, regional, and national competitions throughout the East Coast.

As the program has grown over the years, it has expanded to include additional performance and competitive opportunities. Be The Change, launched in 2022, is a student-run initiative focused on bettering the community through a shared love of dance. Since then, it has became an integral part of the competition experience, reinforcing the values of leadership, sportsmanship, and community alongside strong technical training and performance excellence.

Dancers interested in joining our competitive program are encouraged to train in multiple styles, particularly ballet and jazz, which form the technical foundation of our training.
