2008-2009 WELCOME LETTER TO MAUREEN’S SCHOOL OF DANCE AND DANCEWEAR SHOP
We are celebrating our 35th Anniversary teaching dance to students of all ages in the Hampton Roads area and whether it’s your first year with us or one of many, we thank you for choosing us.You are now part of our dance school family. If you have any questions that aren’t answered in this registration packet, please feel free to call the school at 488-8424 and we’ll do our best to answer them. Our Recital Theme this year is “Give My Regards to Broadway”.Watch for coming information on Maureen’s School of Dance group trip to NYC in June of 2009! Teaching Staff: We have 9 teachers on staff this year!Besides our returning teachers, Miss Michelle, Miss Lanisha, Miss Lauren, Miss Mary Ann, Miss Roz and Miss Angie, we are pleased to welcome Miss Dana, Miss Ali and Miss Olga to our teaching staff. All of our teachers have years of experience teaching dance, are versatile in the styles of dance they teach and have a wealth of knowledge to share with our students. We are very pleased to have them on our staff. Students: Students should be on time for classes but arrive no more than 10 minutes early. After class, we ask that all students wait inside the building for their ride. Children are not allowed in the shop area without an adult.Food and drinks should be kept in the waiting room and not taken into the shop area. Registration Packet: Before your first lesson, you must sign and return one copy each of the Agreement Letter, Student Information Sheet and if you chose, the Autopay Authorization Form (all found in the front pocket of this Information Packet). If you have more than one student registered, there are forms for each child. Please make any necessary corrections or additions (be sure to provide cell phone numbers and e-mail addresses) before you return it to us.(The way your student’s name is on the paperwork is the same as it will be on the Recital T-Shirts and in the Recital Program Book.)If we are closed, you may drop it in our locked mailbox beside our front door. Dancewear & Shoes: We sell the required dance shoes and dancewear right here in our shop.We suggest you purchase needed items before classes start to avoid the crowd. Our shoes are high quality and we’ll give you a professional fit with a ‘little room to grow’.Note: We do not allow inferior quality ballet shoes (sold in stores like Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Target, Pick N’ Pay, Payless, etc. or Isotoner-like bedroom slippers) in our classes because they do not allow students to learn to properly point their toes.Dance shoes should not be worn outside. Please put your student’s first and last name in every shoe and dance bag.We have a ‘Sharpie’ pen at the desk you can use. Gift Certificates: Gift Certificates are available in any denomination and can be used for lessons or merchandise.Be sure to inform your friends and family in case they are looking for ‘gift ideas’. Hoodies &DanceSchool Jackets: Our new hoodies continue to be a big hit. They come in child and adult sizes in white, pink, light blue, light gray and dark gray.We also have a new shipment of matching teddy bears in several colors. We also have our luscious pink satin jackets still available in sizes Toddler 4 to Extra Large Adult for $49.95.Their name can be added for an additional $6.These both make great Birthday and Christmas presents. Snacks & Drinks: We sell drinks, candy and snacks at the desk for $.70 each. For your convenience, you may purchase tickets ahead and use them as needed. If you buy 10 tickets for $7.00, we’ll give you 1 ticket FREE.Drinks, candy and snacks must be kept in the waiting room and cannot be taken into any classroom or the Dancewear Shop.Students who are in a class over 1 hour long may take water only (in a bottle with a cap) into class. Parking: When scheduling classes for the year, I stagger the class times (as much as possible) to help the flow of traffic in our parking lot. Despite this, our parking lot may still be congested (especially the first 2 weeks of September). We ask that you only park within the lines.Do not park in either one of the entrances on Portsmouth Blvd. or in the driveway to the left of our building (as you are facing it), in front of the Animal Hospital or between our buildings until after they close (6 PM on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, 7 PM on Monday and Wednesday, and 1 PM on Saturday). Please do not block their cars in as they are as anxious to leave work at the end of their workday as you are at the end of yours. If there are no marked parking spaces available, we ask that you drop your student off and come back when their class is over.Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
